About Dr Alex Cappai
Dr Alex Cappai is a Consultant Psychiatrist and a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. She specialises in General Adult Psychiatry and Forensic Psychiatry and is a qualified expert witness for criminal and civil courts. She obtained her medical degree in Medicine and Surgery in Italy, equivalent to an MBBS, and has over 18 years’ experience working in psychiatry. Dr Cappai has worked as a General Adult Psychiatrist in Italy and has been practising within the NHS since 2012. Her clinical experience spans a range of settings, including community mental health services, general psychiatric hospitals, secure forensic hospitals, and prison services. Dr Cappai has a specialist interest in neurodevelopmental conditions, particularly Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). She is currently employed as a Consultant Psychiatrist in an NHS Adult ADHD Clinic at North London NHS Foundation Trust. Her work includes the assessment, diagnosis and management of ADHD, including cases where ADHD coexists with other mental health conditions. In addition to her clinical practice, Dr Cappai has been involved in psychiatric research, teaching and quality improvement initiatives. She has presented at national and international conferences and has published research in peer-reviewed journals. Her clinical work includes the assessment and treatment of a wide range of psychiatric conditions, including neurodevelopmental disorders, personality disorders, mood and anxiety disorders, and complex trauma. She provides general psychiatric consultations as well as Adult ADHD assessments, with treatment plans that may include medication, psychological therapies and lifestyle considerations.
