About Mr Aidan Benson
Mr Aidan Benson is a Consultant Cataract and Vitreoretinal Surgeon, practising at Spire Elland and Leeds Hospitals, as well as Newmedica Bradford and Huddersfield. He specialises in cataract and vitreoretinal surgery, with expertise spanning both routine and complex ophthalmic procedures. Mr Benson completed his undergraduate studies at Vassar College in New York, USA, graduating with honours before undertaking his medical degree at Imperial College London, where he qualified MB BS in 2012. He subsequently completed his ophthalmology training in Yorkshire and achieved Fellowship of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (FRCOphth). Alongside his private practice, Mr Benson serves as an NHS Consultant Surgeon and Cataract Lead at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust where he leads the vitreoretinal team. His clinical interests include general ophthalmology, private and premium cataract surgery, and complex cataract procedures. He also performs a wide range of vitreoretinal treatments, including surgery for epiretinal membranes, macular holes, retinal detachments, and vitreous floaters. In addition, he provides retinal laser treatments for diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration, as well as secondary lens placement, intraocular lens exchange, and combined cataract and retinal procedures.
