He furthered his specialisation by obtaining a Master's degree in Paediatric Dentistry from the same institution. He later pursued doctoral studies at the University of Western Ontario in Canada. Dr Ashmawi is an active member of the American Academy of Paediatric Dentistry (AAPD), the International Association of Paediatric Dentistry (IAPD), and the Egyptian Society of Paediatric Dentistry and Children with Special Needs (ESPSN).
