Twisselmann ist seit 2004 Facharzt für Innere Medizin und erlangte 2006 die Schwerpunktbezeichnung Kardiologie. Er verfügt über die Zusatzqualifikationen Fachkunde für Strahlenschutz, Thoraxdiagnostik und Interventionsradiologie. Zudem ist er Ausbilder im Asklepios Klinikum Nord, Heidberg, für die Zusatzqualifikation „Interventionelle Koronartherapie“. Seine Expertise liegt insbesondere im Bereich der interventionellen Koronartherapie. Sein wissenschaftlicher Schwerpunkt liegt auf verschiedenen interventionellen Techniken und der Bildgebung (IVUS/FFR). Dr. med. Twisselmann führt deutschlandweit ärztliche Fortbildungen im Bereich der Koronarintervention durch (in Zusammenarbeit mit Cardio Skills, Frankfurt, European Surgical Institute, Norderstedt). Darüber hinaus hält er die Zusatzqualifikationen der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Kardiologie (DGK) für Interventionelle Kardiologie und Spezielle Rhythmologie sowie aktive Herzrhythmusimplantate.
