About
Consultant Ophthalmologist & Clinical Partner, Newmedica
Mr Guthrie is a Consultant Ophthalmologist and Clinical Partner at Newmedica, specialising in cataract and refractive surgery. He completed his ophthalmic surgical training in the South West of England, followed by a fellowship in corneal and emergency ophthalmology at Bristol Eye Hospital.
He regularly performs customised cataract surgery, including the use of toric lenses for astigmatism correction and multifocal or extended depth-of-focus (EDOF) lenses to reduce patients’ reliance on glasses for near and intermediate vision.
In addition to his clinical work, Mr Guthrie is actively involved in education and training. He has served as a lecturer, OSCE examiner, and professional mentor. His academic contributions include co-authoring clinical guidelines, publishing original research in peer-reviewed journals, and presenting at national and international ophthalmology conferences. He has also led several quality improvement initiatives focused on enhancing patient care and service delivery.
Mr Guthrie is committed to delivering high standards of care and optimising visual outcomes through evidence-based, patient-centred practice.
“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
