Furthering his expertise, he completed a Masters of Surgery in upper gastrointestinal surgery from the same institution in 2016. Dr. Cheng completed his accredited surgical training at Westmead Hospital and obtained his Surgical Fellowship with The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2018. He then pursued four years of advanced post-fellowship training in upper gastrointestinal and bariatric surgery at high-volume centres like St. George Hospital in Sydney and St. Vincent Hospital in Melbourne.

Dr. Cheng is passionate about medical education and research, holding lecturer positions at The University of Sydney and the University of Western Sydney. He has made significant contributions to the field through numerous publications in bariatric and upper gastrointestinal surgery. As an active member of the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders and the Australia and New Zealand Metabolic and Obesity Surgery Society, Dr. Cheng regularly presents at national and international conferences, staying at the forefront of advancements in his field.
