About Mr Srinivas Chintapatla
Mr Srinivas Chintapatla is a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon at York Teaching Hospital since 2004, with particular expertise in advanced colonoscopy, laparoscopic surgery and complex abdominal wall hernia repair. After completing six years of higher surgical training in Manchester, Mr Chintapatla was appointed Consultant Surgeon at York in 2004. He served as Care Group Director of Cancer and Support Services from 2019-2023 (including the Covid years), with responsibility for quality and safety across multiple clinical departments including oncology, endoscopy, radiology, haematology, and pharmacy. He is a nationally accredited bowel cancer screening colonoscopist and has over a decade of experience performing bowel cancer screening colonoscopies in the NHS and removal of complex large bowel polyps using advanced endoscopic techniques. He is part of the Complex Polyp pathway team in the NHS. He was involved in the design and creation of a new £ 12.4 million Endoscopy Unit at York Teaching Hospital. He is highly experienced in managing complex abdominal wall hernias. He is the founder of the York Abdominal Wall Unit at York Teaching Hospital in the NHS York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - Abdominal Wall Reconstruction The unit has an international reputation in research into quality of life, clinical pathways and process optimisation for managing patients with Complex Abdominal Wall Hernia (see publications here Srinivas Chintapatla (0000-0001-8326-2847) - ORCID) The York Abdominal Wall Unit runs 6 specialist trianing courses each year where Mr Chintapatla teaches junior residents (targeting "Small Bites" ), surgical registrars (Cadaveric Simulation for advanced operative techniques in complex hernias) and early career consultants (on how to set up a Abdo Wall Unit ). He is a peer reviewer for the journal Hernia and is a Director of Patient and Public Liaison Sub committee of British Hernia Society. He enjoys reading (top three favourite novels are Daphne du Maurier's Rebecca, Margaret Mitchell's Gone with the Wind and Somerset Maugham's Cakes and Ale). He enjoys discussing Philosophy and a favourite past time is travelling to historical places when he gets time to do so.
