Professor Irfan Ahmed is a distinguished Consultant General and Hepatobiliary Surgeon who specialises in complex diseases of the liver, pancreas, and bile duct. He has a particular interest in advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgical techniques, focusing on providing patients with the most modern and effective treatments available. Professor Ahmed is a pioneer in the field of surgical innovation and has developed specialised techniques, including Virtual Scarless Surgery, which has been introduced globally. He is committed to advancing the field of surgery and is an internationally recognised instructor in advanced laparoscopic skills, teaching surgeons worldwide. His contributions also extend to the development of telemedicine and tele-mentoring for young surgeons using modern technologies. He earned his MD from the University of Leeds, where his groundbreaking research on liver preservation was supported by the Royal College of Surgeons of England. Professor Ahmed completed his higher surgical training in the Mid-Trent Higher Surgical Rotation. He holds academic positions as a Professor at the University of Aberdeen and a Visiting Professor at Robert Gordon University. Furthermore, he is a member of the Court of Examiners for the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Joint Committee on Intercollegiate Examinations.
