Mr. Zola Mzimba is a Consultant Surgeon and Venous Ultrasound Specialist with many years of experience in the treatment and management of vascular conditions, including varicose veins, chronic venous insufficiency and deep vein thrombosis. His NHS practice is based in Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry/Londonderry and Omagh Hospital Primary Care Complex.
Mr. Mzimba graduated from Birmingham University in 1990 and spent the majority of his junior and senior training on rotations in the West Midlands in the UK. He also gained invaluable training and experience were also gained during a year in a unit in Baragwanath hospital in Soweto, South Africa, and The Royal Victoria Hospital Belfast, Northern Ireland.
Upon completion of his training, Mr. Mzimba settled in Derry/Londonderry, where he has been a consultant since 2006. His NHS practice now specialises in venous disease and interventions, primarily local anesthetic treatment of varicose veins. He is the clinical co-chair for the delivery of varicose vein services in Northern Ireland. Through this role, Mr. Mzimba has been involved in helping set up the Dedicated Elective Care Centers for varicose veins in Northern Ireland; The aim of which is to deliver high volume, high-quality venous interventions under local anaesthetic as a day case. Mr. Mzimba is also a Council member of the Venous Forum at the Royal Society of Medicine, as well as the American Venous Forum, in addition to being on the board for the British Association of Sclerotherapists.
Mr Mzimba is experienced with venous ultrasound and is holds the Registered Phlebology Sonographer credential ( RPhS) allowing him to fully assess and plan bespoke treatment plans
Mr. Mzimba only sees patients with venous issues, dedicating the whole of his time to Phlebology (Venous disease) which includes varicose veins, spider veins, venous skin changes and ulceration as well as venous thrombosis or clots in both deep (DVT) and superficial veins ( Phlebitis- SVT).
