Mr
Mr Tryfon Vainas
General Surgery
About
His areas of specialty include:
• Aortic aneurysms/dissections
• Painful swollen leg
• Carotid artery disease
• Stroke prevention
• Peripheral vascular disease
His practice covers all areas of vascular surgery, including aortic hybrid and open surgery, carotid and peripheral revascularisation procedures, varicose vein surgery, and deep venous stenting.
Mr Vainas gained his medical degree from the Medical School of Maastricht in the Netherlands in 1998 before undertaking a PhD at the Cardiovascular Research Institute of Maastricht. He is trained in both general and vascular surgery and undertook fellowship training at St Mary's Hospital in London.
In 2011, Mr Vainas became a consultant vascular and endovascular surgeon at Groningen University Medical Centre, where he specialised in complex open endovascular and hybrid aortic reconstructions. He moved to the UK in 2015, where he was appointed as a consultant at University Hospitals Leicester NHS Trust.
He remains involved in research and has roles in national clinical trials and systematic reviews; this enables him to offer his patients the latest scientific technologies and developments in the field of vascular disease. He is also the clinical audit lead for vascular surgery in his trust and is therefore involved in the improvement of care standards and assurance of patient safety.
“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
