Dr Halliday grew up in London and attended the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine in Hampstead, where she graduated in 1984. She then spent four years in Wiltshire specialising in psychiatry and three years training to be a general practitioner. She returned to London in 1991 to work for an NHS practice in Fulham, which was run by her father for 40 years.
She worked as a general practitioner until October 2007, when she joined the Roodlane Medical team in Canary Wharf.
