Mr Sung is a Consultant Ophthalmologist with over 20 years of experience specialising in complex glaucoma management and small-incision cataract surgery. He is a national expert in managing combined cataract and glaucoma conditions with Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgeries (MIGS), such as iStent and OMNI trabeculotomy procedures. He is also a recognised authority in complex glaucoma tube-shunt implant surgery, including Paul tube and Baerveldt tube implants. Mr Sung practices at the Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre, one of the largest tertiary referral eye hospitals in the UK.
Mr Sung qualified in Medicine in 1993 from the University of Wales, followed by specialist training at Queen's Medical Centre, Nottingham. He completed a renowned paediatric glaucoma fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London. He was appointed to his current consultant post in 2004.
Mr Sung is passionate about training and research. He runs a senior glaucoma fellowship and research programme that has mentored over 40 consultant ophthalmologists, many of whom are now practising in the UK and internationally. He has authored and co-authored over 40 publications. Mr Sung is a co-founder and serving secretary of the UK Paediatric Glaucoma Society.
