Mr Tyagi is one of the senior most and nationally respected surgeon
in West Midlands. He has been treating and operating on patients with eye
problems for over 30 years. He has performed thousands of eye operations and is
regularly referred complex retinal and cataract cases.
Mr Tyagi has been at the forefront of developing and using
latest techniques to provide safe and cutting edge surgery, for the benefit of
his patients. He was the first surgeon in UK to use 3D surgery (heads up) for
eye operations.
Mr Tyagi obtained his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) in 1994. He completed his Registrar training in general Ophthalmology at The Birmingham & Midlands Eye Centre, Birmingham. Following this he underwent sub-specialist training in Vitreoretinal Surgery at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. He also undertook an Observership at John Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore to study new surgical techniques in managing patients with retinal and in particular macular diseases. He was one of the early surgeons in the UK to perform complex surgeries such as macular translocations for patients with macular degeneration.
Mr Tyagi was appointed as Consultant Ophthalmologist at The
Birmingham & Midlands Eye Centre in 2001. This is the second largest eye
hospital in UK and is a dedicated teaching hospital for medical students and Ophthalmologists in training. Mr Tyagi also trains surgeons from across the globe in
vitreoretinal surgery. Many of the trainees are now well established surgeons
in UK and abroad.
He has a large tertiary referral base with patients being referred from all over the country. He has presented at various international conferences and has published research papers in prestigious medical journals.
Mr Tyagi accepts specialist referral for the following:
- Modern cataract surgery with multifocal implants
- Refractive Lens surgery
- Vitreoretinal diseases and surgery:
retinal detachment, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, ocular trauma etc
- Intravitreal injections for macular degeneration, vein occlusions, diabetic retinopathy
- Retinal laser treatment
- General ophthalmology
