One of his particular surgical interests is in performing shoulder and elbow surgeries under local anaesthesia when possible, with patients awake. This allows patients to have much shorter post-operative recovery times and avoids the risks of general anaesthesia, which may make surgery otherwise impossible for some patients. In 2017 Mr Ferran treated a 94-year old woman whom received two new shoulders, something that quite simply wouldn't have been possible had it not been for this approach.
