About Dr Gerald Coakley
Dr. Gerald Coakley is a highly experienced Consultant Rheumatologist and Physician who practised in the NHS at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich between 2000 and 2023. He has now focussed his attention exclusively on ME/CFS, post-viral fatigue and Long Covid, delivered by video consultation, and is no longer providing a rheumatology or routine face to face service. Dr. Coakley completed his medical degree at the Royal London Hospital Medical School in 1989 and subsequently underwent postgraduate training in Nottingham and London. He also undertook an Arthritis Research Campaign Fellowship and conducted in-depth research into Rheumatoid Arthritis and Felty's Syndrome at Guy's Hospital, which led to him obtaining a PhD in 2000, he continues to maintain a keen research interest in these areas. Dr. Coakley held various positions at Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Trust, including Director of Medical Education from 2003 to 2013 and Clinical Director for Dermatology, Neurology, and Rheumatology from 2013 to 2018. He was a Trustee and National Chair of the Education and Training Committee for the British Society for Rheumatology from 2019 to 2022. He has also published numerous papers in the areas of Felty's Syndrome and Septic Arthritis.
