He obtained his MBBS degree from Monash University in 2001. After qualifying in medicine, Dr Dimitriou completed his training in centres across Australia, including Austin Hospital, St Vincent's Hospital, Alfred Hospital and the Royal Melbourne Hospital. Following his training, he became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2013. He also completed an intensive cardiothoracic fellowship at Toronto General Hospital in Canada supervised by Professor Tirone David in 2015. During this fellowship, Dr Dimitriou gained expertise in complex aortic surgery, mitral valve repair and heart failure surgery.
Dr Dimitriou has clinical expertise in the surgical treatment and management of all cardiothoracic conditions, such as arrhythmias, palpitations, heart failure and heart valve diseases. He has special interests in coronary artery surgery, complex aortic valve surgery - including aortic valve repair and replacement surgery, as well as total arterial revascularisation and heart pacing.
In addition to his affiliation with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, Dr Dimitriou is also a Member of the Australian Medical Association.
