About Mr James Manners
Mr James Manners is a Consultant Urological Surgeon with broad expertise in general urology and a specialist interest in minimally invasive, robotic and open renal surgery. He qualified from Nottingham University Medical School in 2001 and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He is also a member of the British Association of Urological Surgeons and the European Association of Urologists. James is keen to make sure that every patient feels heard and listened to. He will take time to understand your concerns and needs and will provide advice on any necessary investigations or treatments. Mr Manners manages a wide range of urological conditions and has extensive experience in the treatment of benign prostate enlargement. He is trained in multiple surgical and minimally invasive techniques, including bipolar and monopolar transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP), Rezūm steam therapy, UroLift and holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP). James has a subspecialist interest in minimally invasive and robotic kidney surgery. He receives referrals for patients requiring treatment for kidney cancer or PUJ obstuction. Consultants in other hospitals (including Dorchester and Salisbury) will make tertiary referrals to James to help patients with these type of conditions. Alongside his clinical practice, Mr Manners has a long-standing commitment to medical education and leadership. His interest in teaching began early through his role as a Cadet Leader and Instructor with St John Ambulance. During his university years, his leadership contributions led to the award of honorary life membership of Nottingham University Students’ Union. Since qualifying, he has continued to develop this interest through roles as a Fellow in Medical Education at University Hospital Southampton and as a Medical Education Fellow for the Wessex Deanery. He has been a senior faculty member and Franchise Director for the Tomorrow’s Teachers course and has been linked with Southampton Medical School as Associate Clinical Sub-Dean, where he has played an active role in training and supporting future doctors.
"Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions."
