Mr Wedderburn was appointed as a consultant urologist in 2002 at Royal Bournemouth Hospital. In addition to general urology he offers a subspecialist interest in laparoscopic and robotic surgery, particularly related to diseases related to the prostate.
Andrew Wedderburn studied medicine as an undergraduate at St Thomas' Hospital (UMDS) in London. He undertook basic surgical training in London and Sussex and was appointed to the Wessex Training Scheme for higher urological training. During this period he undertook a fellowship at Royal Perth Hospital. In 2000 at the FRCS (Urol) examination he was awarded the Keith Yates medal and subsequently undertook travelling fellowships at the Cleveland Clinic and Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.
In 2006 he was awarded a British Urological Foundation fellowship to help set up the local Brachytherapy service and undertook fellowship training at the Seattle Prostate Institute with his clinical oncology colleagues. In 2010 he undertook training and subsequently developed the Prostate Template Biopsy service locally.
In 2007 he undertook training with his colleague, Kevin Turner, in laparoscopic radical prostatectomy at the University of Leipzig. In 2013 he trained as a robotic prostatectomy surgeon mentored by Professor Stolzenburg from Leipzig and Professor Haese from the Martini-Klinik in Hamburg.
Andrew is an examiner for the FRCS Urology examination, Training Program Director for Wessex Urology and Chair of the Dorset Network Site Specific Group in Uro-oncology.
Special interests
Andrew can offer a complete and rapid diagnostic pathway for many conditions including blood in the urine (haematuria) and an elevated PSA (prostate specific antigen). He runs a weekly clinic with rapid access to multiparimetric prostate MRI followed if appropriate by biopsy.
He performs prostate brachytherapy, robotically assisted radical prostatectomy and runs the local prostate template biopsy service. Mr Wedderburn also undertakes bladder biopsy, template biopsy, epidydimal cyst excision, hydrocele repair, ureteroscopy and optical urethrotomy.
Andrew Wedderburn offers a general urology outpatient service with specific interests in uro-oncology. He does not offer a paediatric service .
