About Mr James Childs
Mr James Childs is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon who specialises in disorders of the knee and hip. He is able to treat a range of conditions including sports injuries, ligament injuries, arthritis, and patellar instability. His areas of interest include the following: • Knee surgery; • Knee osteoarthritis; • Knee preservation surgery including osteotomy around the knee; • Knee replacement / arthroplasty surgery; • Soft tissue knee surgery; • Knee chondral / cartilage regeneration; • Anterior Cruciate Ligament / ACL surgery; • Hip replacement / arthroplasty surgery. Mr Childs takes an evidence-based approach to treatment and personalises his care for each of his patients. He strongly believes that patients should be fully informed of all the options available to them for their condition, and he ensures that the treatment plan is tailored specifically to each individual. He trained at the University of St Andrews as well as the University of Manchester before undertaking specialised orthopaedic training in the North West of England. Following this, he became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and completed a fellowship at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital focusing on joint preservation in knee disorders. He then undertook a second fellowship in knee and hip joint replacement at Wrightington hospital. Mr Childs is a member of both the British Orthopaedic Association and the British Association for Surgery of the Knee. He is actively involved in both resaarch and teaching and has completed a Postgraduate diploma in medical education.
