À propos
Mr Geoffrey Roberts is a Consultant Upper Gastrointestinal (GI) and Hernia Surgeon based in Oxford, providing expert NHS and private care for abdominal wall hernias and Upper GI surgical conditions. In his private practice at the Nuffield Oxford Manor Hospital he offers expert assessment and treatment for hernias, gallstones, abdominal pain, hiatus hernia, achalasia and gastro-oesophageal reflux disease.
He holds a substantive consultant post at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, where he is Clinical Lead for the Surgical Emergency Unit. His clinical practice encompasses the management of complex emergency and elective upper GI conditions, delivered with a strong focus on safe, personalised, and evidence-based care. As a clinician with a strong interest in emergency care he is experienced in managing the complex decision making and surgery seen at the acute end of surgery.
He has a special interest and expertise in laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery for hernias, gallstones, reflux and hiatus hernias and is particularly driven by helping people return to normal life as soon as possible after treatment.
He has particular expertise in complex "hot" cholecystectomy through his work in the Surgical Emergency Unit (SEU) in the Oxford John Radcliffe Hospital, one of the busiest and highest performing acute gallbladder services in the UK. Through his expertise in safe "hot" cholecystectomy he is ideally placed to offer high quality care for acute and long-standing gallbladder problems.
Mr Roberts completed his higher surgical training in the East of England and undertook a prestigious fellowship in oesophago-gastric surgery at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge. Alongside his clinical training, he completed a PhD at the Institute of Metabolic Science, University of Cambridge. His research examined the impact of stomach and oesophageal surgery on appetite regulation, glucose control, and long-term quality of life and he has lectured internationally on improving quality of life after major surgery.
He studied medicine at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, and Merton College, Oxford, graduating BMBCh with distinction from the University of Oxford in 2007. After finishing his core surgical training at Cambridge, he spent time volunteering as a surgeon at St Francis’ Hospital in Katete, Zambia. As a volunteer surgeon he provided care and training as part of a local and international team of clinicians in a rural hospital, with a particular focus on long-term improvements in patient safety and burns care.
