Prof. h.c. Dr. Alexander Flor absolvierte sein Medizinstudium an der Universität Wien. Nach seiner Promotion zum Doktor der gesamten Heilkunde im Jahr 1993 folgte die Ausbildung zum Facharzt für Chirurgie in Brasilien und Wien. Seine Anerkennung zum Facharzt für Chirurgie erlangte er im Jahr 2001. Im Jahr 2002 wurde Prof. h.c. Dr. Flor vom American College of Phlebology mit dem Gold Award ausgezeichnet. Prof. h.c. Dr. Flor engagiert sich in der Lehre und ist als Professor an der Benemerita Universität in Puebla, Mexiko, tätig.
Prof. h.c. Dr. Flor ist Mitglied in verschiedenen Fachgesellschaften, darunter die Österreichische Gesellschaft für Chirurgie, die Arbeitsgemeinschaft chirurgische Onkologie und der Berufsverband österreichischer Chirurgen. Darüber hinaus ist er Mitglied im International Forum for Minisurgery of Varicose Veins und der Österreichischen Gesellschaft für operative Dermatologie.
Prof. h.c. Dr. Flor ist auch international vernetzt und arbeitet mit Venenzentren in den USA, Brasilien, Mexiko und Deutschland zusammen.
