Diese Ausbildung verbesserte seine Fähigkeiten in fortgeschrittenen Techniken der Schulterchirurgie erheblich.

Nach seiner Rückkehr nach Wien war Dr. Lanz als Schulterspezialist und Schulterchirurg zunächst am Krankenhaus der Barmherzigen Schwestern in Wien und später als Leiter des Spezialteams für Schulter am renommierten Orthopädischen Spital Wien / Speising tätig. Im April 2019 eröffnete er das Sportorthopädie Zentrum in Wien 13, Hietzing.
