About
Stephen has received multiple research grants from the Medical Research Council, cancer charities, and the University of Birmingham. He was awarded a travelling fellowship to the University Medical Centre Amsterdam, where he refined advanced techniques in rectal cancer treatment.
In 2018, Stephen became a Consultant Surgeon at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. He specialises in laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery for colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, and general surgery including hernia repair. He has a strong interest in proctology, particularly anal fistula management, and is an active member of the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain & Ireland’s Proctology Committee.
Beyond clinical work, Stephen leads colorectal audit and data analysis initiatives, developing systems to monitor surgical outcomes. He supervises surgical trainees and is a GMC-registered trainer, committed to advancing both patient care and surgical education.
