About Dr Shivan Sivakumar
Dr Shivan Sivakumar is an oncologist and researcher with a particular focus on improving outcomes for patients with pancreatic, liver, and biliary tract cancers. His expertise lies in early diagnosis, running innovative clinical trials, and advancing understanding of these cancers through cutting-edge research into their biological mechanisms. Dr Sivakumar graduated from Barts and The London School of Medicine before completing his foundation training in Leeds. He pursued a PhD in Biochemistry as a Clinical Research Fellow at St John’s College, University of Cambridge, where he laid the groundwork for his career in translational oncology. Following his general medical training in Wales and Leeds, he was appointed a Clinical Lecturer at the University of Oxford. During his time there, he conducted translational research while completing his oncology training, later becoming a Clinical Career Development Fellow and Honorary Consultant in Medical Oncology at Oxford. In August 2023, Dr Sivakumar joined the University of Birmingham as an Associate Professor to lead an academic translational programme in one of Europe's largest Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) oncology units. Nationally recognised for his work in pancreatic, biliary tract, and liver cancers, Dr Sivakumar has received prestigious accolades such as the NCRI Future of Research Award and the Royal College of Physicians Linacre Lecture. He has secured significant research funding and regularly publishes in leading international journals. Through his clinical and academic leadership, Dr Sivakumar continues to make profound strides in cancer research and treatment, shaping the future of oncology for patients worldwide.
