All comon GI problems are seen including abdominal pain, diarrhoea, constipation, reflux, food allergy and many more.
Professor Thomson is highly skilled in endoscopy and all other facets of Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition. He has gained extensive experience working across the UK and Australia, he previously spent time in Brisbane managing a world-renowned Paediatric Liver Transplant Programme. After completing this work in Brisbane, he returned to the United Kingdom in 1994 and devoted a significant amount of time to Birmingham Children's Hospital. In November 1995, he began working at the Royal Free Paediatric Gastroenterology Unit, which had been established by Professor John Walker-Smith - one of the pioneers of paediatric gastroenterology.
Professor Thomson continues to work hard in both Sheffield and London, as well as leading the National Centre of Paediatric Endoscopy Training - which trains Fellows/Trainees and more established Consultants from all over the world. In addition to this, he has single-handedly built up the UK's most comprehensive small bowel investigation service for children. This involves wireless capsule endoscopy and enteroscopy - two areas in which he is highly knowledgeable. Consequently, his expertise spans across all aspects of paediatric gastroenterology.
Professor Thomson's expertise in minimally invasive surgery and endoscopy have helped countless children receive early diagnosis and treatment for conditions like gastro-oesophageal reflux disease. He is a well-known speaker on these topics at conferences across the globe, and regularly provides expert advice to parent-run organisations like Living with Reflux.
