Mr Steven Millington is a consultant Hip, knee and sports orthopaedic surgeon working at Barts Health NHS trust. He worked tirelessly to establish the dedicated elective orthopaedic centre for Barts Health NHS trust and spent over a decade as the head of service at Barts Health Orthopaedic Centre. He also a senior consultant at the Royal London Hospital which is the largest trauma centre in Europe. In private practices he works at HCA London Bridge Hospital (including The Shard outpatient & diagnostic centre), Circle Health - The London Independent Hospital, LycaHealth Canary Wharf, LIPS Healthcare - Battersea Power Station and also has admitting rights at King Edward VII hospital.
Having played rugby at an elite level he moved in the the field of orthopaedic and sports surgery. He trained at St Barts and Royal London teaching hospital andspent 10 years as the head of the department at the Barts Health Orthopaedic Centre. He specialises in hip, knee surgery and sports surgery. He is also fellowship trained in tumour surgery. He has trained many colleagues and runs the lower limb fellowship program at Barts Health helping senior UK and international surgeons to develop their sub-specialist skills in joint replacement surgery and sports injury management. Mr Millington is an expert in hip, total knee and partial knee replacement surgery including complex revision surgery, in addition to treating sports injuries such as ACL surgery, ligament, cartilage and meniscus conditions with keyhole surgery.
He has extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of the full range of musculoskeletal disorders and a passion for advancing patient care, he employs the latest techniques in orthopaedics including use of custom made implants and robotics when indicated, to ensure optimal outcomes for his patients.Mr. Millington is dedicated to providing personalized care tailored to each patients individual he sees needs. Mr Millington offers evidence-based treatment plans, high quality surgery using enhance recovery techniques and has a comprehensive network of colleagues in multiple key specialties (physyiotherapy, rheumatology, sports and exercise medicine, pain management etc) to ensure optimal post-operative rehabilitation after surgery or injury.
Mr Millington qualified in 1998 from the University of Nottingham and during his orthopaedic training he completed his PhD in the field of articular cartilage research, cartilage imaging and transplantation. He has held many prestigious international research grants including from the National Institute for Health (NIH) in the USA, the Austrian National Bank and Barts Charity. He has published over 30 international peer reviewed research publications and widely presented at international research meeting.
He was fortunate to previously be nominated for a BAFTA television award after performing total knee replacement live on national TV, in the UK watch by a live audience of over 1.5 million viewers.
For many years, Mr Millington worked overseas in leading university teaching hospitals in the USA - University of Virgina, Austria - Medical University of Vienna and Australia -Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and is now based in London. He works closely with leading consultants across London to provide the best level of care possible to UK and overseas patients. Mr Millington is an approved provider with all health insurance companies, including Bupa , Axa, Aviva, Vitality, WPA, Healix, Cigna, Allianz, Bupa International and Cigna International
Mr. Millington also speaks German and is happy to provide treatment and discussion in German when required.
