Dr El Shawarbi graduated with his medical degree from Alexandria University, Egypt in 1993. He later completed fellowship training and was awarded a PhD for his work at Hannover Nordstadt Hospital in Germany. In 2003 he completed his MD in Neurosurgery and became certified by the German Board for Neurosurgery.
Before moving to the UAE, Dr El Shawarbi practiced as a Consultant Neurosurgeon at the International Neuroscience Institute in Hannover, Germany. In 2006, he moved to the UAE and practiced at Tawam Hospital as the Head of the Neurosurgery Department for 11 years. During this time, Dr El Shawarbi became the Medical Director for Neuroscience at SEHA. As Medical Director, he pioneered skull base surgery, complex spine surgery, paediatric neurosurgery, neuromodulation and established SEHA's first stroke program.
Dr El Shawarbi specialises in the diagnosis and surgical treatment and management of conditions of the brain and spine in both adults and children. He sees patients with a broad range of symptoms including back pain, neck pain, numbness, headaches, muscle spasms, memory loss, large head size and seizures.
