Dr Suren Jayaweera
General Surgery
About
Dr Jayaweera completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (Hons) at Monash University in 2000. He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2011, reflecting his advanced surgical training and expertise.
He is highly skilled in minimally invasive surgical techniques and performs a broad range of procedures, including thyroidectomy, paediatric thyroid surgery, parathyroid surgery, and transoral thyroid surgery. Notably, he was the first surgeon in Melbourne to perform transoral endoscopic thyroid surgery (TOETVA), an innovative scarless technique that removes the thyroid gland without a visible neck incision.
Outside of medicine, Dr Jayaweera is a classically trained flautist and jazz saxophonist. He is also a keen football and cricket fan supporting both Hawthorn Football Club and the Sri Lankan national cricket team.
“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
