About
Dr Melikian began his medical education at Guy's and St Thomas's Hospitals Medical School in which he graduated in 1996. His postgraduate training occurred at the Hammersmith, Royal Brompton and King's College Hospitals in London in which he specialised in cardiology. He then went on to do a 2-year fellowship at the prestigious institution – the Cardiovascular Centre in Aalst, Belgium. Furthering his development he then undertook an additional fellowship in heart valve disease at Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town, South Africa. Afterwards, he then undertook a research degree (MD) and was awarded this in 2010.
Dr Melikian had a highly successful education and training in which he was awarded over 11 awards for his work including the British Cardiac Society John Parker Fellowship (2005 - 2007), the Foord Caiger Prize in Cardiology and the Golding Bird and Treasurer's Medals. His expertise was acknowledged in 2012 when he was invited to provide emergency cardiological care to athletes in the London Olympic Games.
His expertise spans from the most complex cases to general problems. He remains one of the most sought after volume interventional cardiologists in the UK. He also leads a very busy practice dealing with a large spectrum of issues like the management of chest discomfort, breathlessness, cardiac arrhythmias, heart failure and heart valve disease. Additionally, he runs a very successful structural interventional practice closing septal defects. He was pinnacle to King's College Hospital being able to offer these services as he was able to secure the funding in 2014, he also set up a neuro-cardiac multi-disciplinary team (MDT) that he continues to chair.
Dr Melikian is an active member of the research community with an ongoing clinical research programme that is well-renowned throughout the world. He continues to be involved in many high profile trials and has received grants from the British Cardiac Society, the British Heart Foundation, and the National Academy of Sciences.
