Prof. Dr. med. Christoph W. Spraul absolvierte sein Medizinstudium an der Albert Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg. Im Jahr 1991 erhielt er seine Approbation und promovierte. Anschließend folgte von 1991 bis 1995 die Facharztausbildung zum Augenarzt an der Universitäts-Augenklinik Ulm.
Anschließend widmete sich Prof. Dr. med. Spraul der Erforschung der altersbedingten Makuladegeneration an der Emory Universität in Atlanta, USA, im Rahmen eines einjährigen Forschungsstipendiums. Seine augenchirurgische Ausbildung vertiefte er von 1996 bis 2004 als Oberarzt an der Universitäts-Augenklinik Ulm. Im Jahr 2003 wurde ihm für seine Forschungsarbeiten zur altersbedingten Makuladegeneration der Professorentitel verliehen.
Prof. Dr. med. Spraul ist Autor zahlreicher wissenschaftlicher Publikationen und Vorträge auf nationalen und internationalen Kongressen. Er ist in verschiedenen Fachgesellschaften tätig, unter anderem der Deutschen Ophthalmologischen Gesellschaft und der Retinologischen Gesellschaft.
