Im Anschluss daran schloss Dr. Birgit Lackner ihre Ausbildung zur Fachärztin für Augenheilkunde und Optometrie an der Universitätsklinik für Augenheilkunde und Optometrie des AKHs Wien ab. Durch umfangreiche Tätigkeiten in verschiedenen Spezialambulanzen konnte Dr. Lackner weitreichende Kenntnisse im Gebiet der Augenheilkunde erwerben. Neben ihrer Tätigkeit in verschiedenen anderen Ambulanzen sammelte sie beispielsweise Erfahrungen in der Ambulanz für Kunstlinsenimplantate, refraktive Chirurgie und Hornhauterkrankungen, in der Ambulanz für okuloplastische Chirurgie und Tränenwegskrankheiten sowie in der Neuroophthalmologischen Ambulanz. Zudem praktizierte sie in diversen allgemeinen Ambulanzen, wie der Ambulanz für Äußere und Innere Augenkrankheiten oder der Augen-Notfallambulanz. Des Weiteren arbeitet sie in der Ambulanz für Diabetische Retinopathie und der Ambulanz für Refraktive Chirurgie mit. Um sich nicht nur im Inland, sondern auch im Ausland weiterzubilden absolvierte Dr. Birgit Lackner einen Auslandsaufenthalt im Massachusetts General Hospital der Harvard University mit dem Schwerpunkt auf Refraktive Chirurgie. Anschließend war sie als Oberärztin an der Universitätsklinik für Augenheilkunde und Optometrie mit dem klinischen Schwerpunkt auf Okuloplastische Chirurgie. Ihr klinischer Forschungsschwerpunkt liegt dabei auf der refraktiven Chirurgie, Rezidive bei BasalzellCarcinom, Lidfehlstellungen und Tränenwegschirurgie. Neben ihrer weitreichenden praktischen Erfahrung absolvierte Dr. Birgit Lackner zudem das Diplom für Notfallmedizin und das Diplom für Ernährungsmedizin der Österreichischen Ärztekammer.
Neben ihrer Ordination im ersten Wiener Gemeindebezirk praktiziert Dr. Birgit Lackner auch in ihrer Ordination in Ebreichsdorf.
