A graduate of Victoria University of Manchester in 1983, Mr. Maxwell pursued his orthopaedic training in the North West region, which included two years of dedicated research at Wrightington Hospital which following the completion of a higher degree led to him being awarded the prestigious Master of Surgery (ChM) degree from Manchester University in 1994.
Mr Maxwell is a Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and Edinburgh and holds the Fellowship of the Royal College of surgeons in Orthopaedic Surgery, awarded in 1996.
In 1996, Mr. Maxwell was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon at Salford Royal NHS Trust, a prominent teaching hospital. His practice has consistently focused on lower limb conditions, with expertise divided across foot and ankle surgery (50%), knee surgery (25%), and hip surgery (25%).
In 2013, he transitioned to exclusively practicing at the Ramsay Oaklands Hospital in Salford, both for his outpatient and surgical practice. He maintains a busy clinical practice, in 2024 alone, he performed over 550 operations and conducted more than 4,100 outpatient consultations.
Mr. Maxwell’s expertise in foot and ankle surgery encompasses a wide range of conditions, including bunions, hammer toe deformities, sports injuries, soft tissue injuries, and foot deformities. He is proficient in keyhole surgery for the ankle and great toe joint and has considerable experience in revision foot surgery.
In the field of knee surgery, Mr. Maxwell is skilled in both keyhole procedures and total knee joint replacement. His practice also includes advanced techniques for treating joint surface injuries, such as chondral grafting.
With more than 30 years of experience in treating hip conditions, Mr. Maxwell is among a select group of surgeons in the UK performing keyhole surgery for non-arthritic hip disorders.
His extensive expertise also includes total hip and knee replacement surgeries, where on a yearly basis he continues to perform above the national average number of operations.
