About

Mr Ben Yates is a consultant podiatric surgeon with more than three decades of experience in foot and ankle surgery. He graduated as a podiatrist in 1989 with distinction and a clinical prize, completed his surgical fellowship in 1997 following training in Northampton and London, and gained a master’s degree in sports injuries and management in 1999.

Mr Yates has performed over 14,000 foot and ankle procedures, the majority undertaken as day-case surgery under local or general anaesthetic or sedation. His clinical practice covers all aspects of foot and ankle surgery, with particular focus on the surgical management of the diabetic foot and the correction of foot deformity and foot arthritis. He manages conditions such as bunions, hammer toes, flatfoot deformity and arthritis of the foot joints, including the first metatarsophalangeal (big toe) joint.

He previously worked with professional rugby and cricket teams and served as a consultant podiatric surgeon at the Great Western Hospital from 2003 to 2024. He now practises privately at Harley Street Specialist Hospital and Weymouth Street Hospital in London, and at the Matrix Clinic in Wroughton, Swindon. His approach incorporates both conservative and surgical management, offering orthotics, injection therapy, shockwave therapy and multidisciplinary care pathways alongside operative treatment.

Mr Yates received the Meritorious Award from the Royal College of Podiatry in 2020 for his contribution to podiatric surgery. In 2019, he contributed to national promotion of advanced clinical practice in the surgical management of the high-risk foot for Health Education England.

He has chaired the UK National Conference for Podiatric Surgeons (2011, 2014–2016), convened postgraduate surgical programmes, and presented nationally and internationally on topics including forefoot surgery, foot fusions, flatfoot surgery and diabetic limb salvage. He has contributed to multiple peer-reviewed publications and has participated in charitable surgical work in India, Ukraine and Vietnam.

“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
