Miss Anastasia Goumenou is a Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist at the East Kent Hospitals University Foundation NHS Trust since 2013. After graduating medicine in 1991, she trained in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Greece and completed her training in the west Midlands and London hospitals.
Anastasia holds a specialist interest in the fields of in-vitro fertilisation techniques, prevention of OHSS, minimal access surgery and recurrent miscarriages. She provides treatments which are individually tailored for every patient. Additionally, she is highly experienced in procedures such as advanced endoscopic surgery for the treatment of endometriosis, adenomyosis, fibroids, pelvic pain, uterine adhesions and ovarian cysts. Anastasia is also specialised in dealing with gynaecological-endocrinological problems such as polycystic ovaries and menstrual disorders. She completed the RCOG advanced training for infertility and assisted reproductive techniques. She has been accredited by the RCOG in laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery and gynaecological ultrasound.
Anastasia is actively involved in research and she has published over 60 research papers, receiving awards for her work both nationally and internationally. Her research work into endometriosis lead to her being awarded a PhD with honours in 2001. She maintains close links with the University of Brunel London, where she is co-applicant in several research grant proposals and remains involved in ongoing research into endometriosis
In addition to her specialist training, she is a Member of the British Fertility Society, European Society for Human Reproduction and Embryology, European Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy and Medical Defence Union.
