Dr Joe Marais is a Consultant Rhinologist and ENT Surgeon currently practising at Mediclinic, Dubai Mall. He holds an MB BCh from the University of the Witwatersrand (1985) and became a Fellow of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons (FRCS ORL) in 1996. He trained in South Africa as a medical student and completed his postgraduate training in the UK, including roles at the Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital in London and as Senior Registrar in Edinburgh. He later undertook sub-specialist fellowship training in rhinology and nasal plastic surgery in Texas and Toronto.
From 2000 until 2025, Dr Marais held NHS consultant posts at Northwick Park, Hillingdon, and Central Middlesex Hospitals in London. His clinical focus includes nasal and sinus conditions, functional and cosmetic rhinoplasty, allergy, snoring, and paediatric ENT, including tonsil, adenoid, and ear problems. He frequently receives tertiary referrals for complex nasal and sinus cases.
Dr Marais is a registered member of ENT-UK, the European Rhinology Society, and an allied associate member of BAPRAS. He has contributed to postgraduate teaching through the Royal College of Surgeons and international conferences and has published extensively in ENT surgery. He also provides medico-legal expertise as an Expert Witness.
