About

David Hulse is a Consultant in Sport & Exercise Medicine and specialist in cycling medicine, endurance sport and injury rehabilitation.

He qualified from the University of Glasgow in 1996 and initially trained in trauma and orthopaedic surgery. In 2005 he left surgical practice to pursue his interest in sports injury rehabilitation and exercise physiology, and became one of the first doctors in the UK to train as a specialist in sport and exercise medicine.

David has worked extensively in professional cycling.  He is a team physician with a World Tour professional cycling team and was previosuly the race doctor for the Tour of Britain. He has expertise in cycling biomechanics, training and injuries and has contributed to education and development within the cycling industry.

He spent many years as a Consultant at Headley Court, the UKDefence Medical Rehabilitation Centre, where he led a multidisciplinary team in lower limb injury rehabilitation. The team specialised in the diagnosis and management of exercise-induced leg pain in running, including chronic exertional compartment syndrome, bone stress injuries and vascular entrapment syndromes. He has published research into the diagnosis and biomechanics of compartment syndrome. He also has extensive experience of managing a full range of upper and lower limb sports injuries and chronic overuse problems.

His clinic offers specialist assessment and diagnosis of cycling and running injuries, and management of a broad range of sports injuries and health issues related to endurance sport. David is a lifelong cyclist, who has a unique understanding of the physical demands of the sport, and the importance of health to human performance.

“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
