About

Mr Daniel Reed is a consultant paediatric orthopaedic surgeon based at the Children’s Orthopaedics practice at The Portland Hospital. He is dedicated exclusively to the care of children and adolescents with musculoskeletal conditions.

After graduating from Oxford University Medical School, he undertook general surgical training in Oxford and London, before training in orthopaedics on rotation at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital. He completed speciality paediatric orthopaedic fellowship training at The Royal London Hospital, and then in Starship Children’s Hospital, Auckland. Following this, he was appointed as a substantive consultant in paediatric orthopaedics at Evelina Childrens’ Hospital in 2017, where he has been Head of Service since 2020.

Mr Reed has extensive experience in managing the full spectrum of paediatric orthopaedic conditions affecting children of all ages, from newborn to young adult.

The Children’s Orthopaedic practice, first established by Professor Robert Hill, offers expert diagnosis, treatment and support for children and their families, and now consists of four paediatric orthopaedic surgeons: Mr Reed, Ms Sarah McMahon, Mr Jonathan Wright and Mr Gregory Firth. 

As part of his work at Children’s Orthopaedic, Mr Reed, has a focus on caring for children and young adults with musculoskeletal problems related to neurodisability. 

Mr Reed is experienced in the management of all children's orthopaedic conditions and has specialist interest in:

• Gait problems related to toe walking, neurological disorders, limb alignment issues

• Hip problems including developmental dysplasia (DDH), Perthes' disease, hip problems related to neurodisability, slipped upper femoral epiphyses (SUFE/SCFE)

• Fractures and sports injuries (including knee cartilage and ligament injuries)

• Clubfoot (CTEV)

• Musculoskeletal problems in neurodisability
