About Dr Amit Datta
Dr. Amit Datta specialises in the management of glaucoma and has been the lead of the Glaucoma Service in NHS Lanarkshire (NHSL) since 2009. He trained in both India and the UK, specialising in ophthalmology with a strong focus on patient-centred care. Since 2006, Dr. Datta has served as a consultant at University Hospital Hairmyres, where he has become an expert in suture-less cataract surgery and laser procedures for glaucoma. He is also recognised as one of the UK’s leading surgeons in minimally invasive glaucoma surgery. Dr. Datta has been instrumental in modernising NHSL’s glaucoma service by introducing innovative procedures and practices. His contributions extend to teaching and training, having pioneered Scotland’s first virtual glaucoma clinic and served as a clinical supervisor and mentor in West of Scotland training rotations since 2006. An active educator and examiner for prestigious medical bodies, he collaborates closely with community optometrists by leading the Shared Care scheme and contributing to the nationwide implementation of a Community Glaucoma Scheme in Scotland.
