About Dr William Lester
Dr. William Lester is a Consultant Haematologist specialising in medical haematology at University Hospitals Birmingham, Queen Elizabeth, where he provides tertiary specialist care for patients across the West Midlands. He also serves as Clinical Lead for Haematology at Birmingham Women’s Hospital, overseeing complex cases in maternal and general haematology. Dr. Lester’s clinical and academic expertise spans a wide range of haematological conditions, including thrombosis, anticoagulation, bleeding disorders, and immune haematology such as ITP, TTP, and AIHA, as well as obstetric haematology and anaemia. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Lester is an Honorary Clinical Associate Professor within the Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences at the University of Birmingham. He plays a leading role in shaping national clinical practice through his position as Chair of the British Society for Haematology (BSH) Haemostasis and Thrombosis Guidelines Taskforce and as Clinical Director of UK NEQAS Blood Coagulation, where he oversees national quality assurance programmes in laboratory haemostasis. Dr. Lester is a Principal Investigator for multiple clinical trials and an invited speaker at national and international conferences, contributing extensively to advancements in haematology research, education, and clinical standards.
