About Mr Vamsi Velchuru
Mr Vamsi Velchuru is a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon with over 14 years of consultant experience in the NHS and more than 3,000 laparoscopic and open procedures performed to date. Based at James Paget University Hospitals NHS Trust, he is highly regarded for his patient-focused approach, combining surgical precision with clear communication and compassionate care. Mr Velchuru completed his Higher Surgical Training in the UK before pursuing advanced fellowship training in minimally invasive and robotic colorectal surgery in Chicago, USA. He is JAG-accredited in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, including colonoscopy and gastroscopy, allowing him to provide comprehensive assessment and management of gastrointestinal conditions. His specialist interests include hernia repair (inguinal, umbilical, and incisional), piles (using advanced techniques such as Anolift), fistulas, fissures, diverticular disease, colorectal cancer, and stoma surgery. With over 20 years of experience in open hernia surgery and 15 years in laparoscopic hernia repair, he consistently achieves excellent outcomes using safe, evidence-based, and minimally invasive techniques. Beyond his clinical expertise, Mr Velchuru is actively involved in surgical research, clinical trials, and medical education, and is a strong advocate for bowel cancer awareness within the community. In his private practice, Mr Velchuru offers patients a clear, informed, and personalised pathway to recovery, ensuring that every individual feels supported throughout their treatment journey.
