About Mr Michael Tappin
Mr Michael Tappin is a Consultant Ophthalmologist specialising in cornea, cataract, anterior segment, and refractive laser and lens surgery. He is based in London, Guildford, and Woking, and is a founding member and director of LaserVision, a specialist eye clinic offering advanced treatments across private hospitals in the UK. LaserVision is one of the few centres in the country to use the Ziemer Z8 femtosecond laser for both laser eye and laser cataract surgery. Mr Tappin graduated in Medicine from St Mary’s Medical School, London, in 1990 and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (FRCOphth) in 1995. He completed specialist ophthalmic training in Sheffield and North Thames, including Moorfields Eye Hospital, before undertaking corneal, laser, and refractive surgery fellowships at Moorfields and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Perth. He was appointed Consultant in 2001 and currently practices at the Royal Surrey NHS Hospital alongside his private clinics. His clinical expertise spans corneal surgery, cataract and complex cataract procedures, refractive laser surgery, lens replacement, keratoconus treatments, and corneal transplantation. He has contributed to research on corneal transplant surgery and intraocular lens implants, and was the first UK surgeon to perform DMEK, an innovative corneal transplantation technique.
