A particular specialty of Dr Turner's is diving cardiology, and he is the chairman of the UK diving medical community. He was previously a diving medicine doctor at the Institute of Naval Medicine and the Submarine Escape training tank.
Dr Turner has been a consultant since 2005 and gained his medical qualification from Bristol University. Between 1988 and 1998, he was a Royal Navy Medical Officer followed by a Surgeon Lieutenant Commander. He undertook cardiology training in Plymouth, Cardiff, Great Ormond Street Hospital and UCLH Hospitals.
Additionally, Dr Turned worked with pioneers of percutaneous valve treatments and is now a trainer of this technique in centres both in the UK and abroad. He has also undertaken extensive research into pacing therapy, particularly in relation to heart failure.
