About Dr Dan McKenzie
Dr Dan McKenzie is a Consultant Cardiologist with a particular interest in complex angioplasty. He works full time at The Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust. Dr McKenzie consults on a range of heart conditions and sees patients with symptoms including chest pain, breathlessness, lightheadedness, palpitations and fainting and conditions such as high blood pressure or heart failure. His sub-speciality is coronary intervention, using thin wires, balloons and stents to expand blocked or narrowed coronary arteries to improve blood flow to the heart muscle and relieve angina. He is a high volume operator performing the procedure more than the national average every year since 2009. Furthermore, over 93% of his interventional procedures are performed through the blood vessel in the wrist (the radial artery) which has been proven to be the safest route. He has an exceptional safety record and a lower complication rate of 1.4%, compared to the 2.6% predicted from the British Cardiovascular Interventional Society (BCIS). Dr McKenzie strongly believes in providing the best quality care to his patients by taking into account the patient's needs and explaining everything as clearly as possible before ordering investigations or performing an angioplasty procedure. Furthermore, he trains Junior Doctors and is involved in several Research Trials both nationally and internationally. He was the Treasurer for the National BCIS Council and was a longstanding member of the BCIS Training and Education Group. Apart from his clinical work, he enjoys spending time with his family and is a keen sportsman: cycling, running, swimming and skiing. He has run several full and half marathon and completed a middle distance distance triathlon. In 2025, he completed the 297km Dragon ride in Wales and this year he has entered the Fred Whitton challenge. Dr McKenzie's secretary, Tracey, can be contacted on 07732 367694 or 01225 838833 .
