About Dr Kosta Calligeros
Dr Kosta Calligeros is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Monash Health, with public appointments at Monash Health and Peninsula Health. He also has a private practice at Peninsula Private Hospital (Frankston), Beleura Hospital (Mornington) and St John of God Private Hospital (Berwick), where he specialises in joint reconstruction (Hip and Knee replacment surgery) and trauma surgery. Kosta focuses particularly on clear communication with his patients and giving them the expert care they need. Dr Calligeros completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgey in 2003 at the University of Sydney and completed his specialist training in NSW in 2012. He was awarded his fellowship after training in orthaedic specialty departments in Australia, the US, and the UK. During this time, he was based at a range of units, including the John Hunter Trauma Centre, Newcastle NSW, The Royal Women and Children's Hospital in Adelaide , the Shriners Children's Orthopaedic Hospital in Portland Oregon (USA), the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh in Scotland where he undertook research in spine surgery in 2005 and limb alignment surgery in Portland in 2010. Kosta has multiple publications in well regarded journals in orthopaedics. Following this, he relocated for almost 2 years to pursue a subspecialist fellowship in The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, focusing on complex arthroplasty, including revision hip and knee replacement, complex trauma, and sports ligament reconstruction. Kosta is very committed to teaching trainee surgeons and is a supervsing surgeon for the Australian Orthopaedic Association in his appointments both at Monash Health and Peninsula Health. He continues to have an interest in research and is undertaking ongoing research in both trauma and hip and knee surgery. Dr Calligeros is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and a member of the Australian Orthopaedic Association.
