At the University of British Columbia he gained advanced expertise in medical and surgical retina, uveitis, ophthalmic oncology and ocular genetics, before undertaking a further fellowship at The Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, focusing on paediatric retinal disease, inherited retinal degenerations and visual electrophysiology.
Mr Stephenson’s clinical expertise spans the full spectrum of vitreoretinal disease, including retinal detachment, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, macular hole and epiretinal membrane surgery, cataract surgery, and complex paediatric retinal disorders. His practice integrates cutting-edge retinal imaging, electrophysiology and genetic evaluation to deliver highly specialised, patient-centred care. He is particularly experienced in managing rare eye conditions and optimising therapeutic pathways for children and adults with inherited retinal diseases.
Mr Stephenson has authored more than sixty peer-reviewed publications and has acted as a reviewer for over one hundred scientific papers across twenty-five journals. He has presented internationally, contributed as a co-investigator on clinical trials in Ireland and Canada, and has secured more than €150,000 in competitive research funding. He remains deeply engaged in teaching and mentorship, helping train the next generation of ophthalmologists and retina specialists.
