About Dr Iain McGraw

Mr Iain McGraw BSc(Hons) MBChB(Commendation) FRCS(Tr&Orth) DipHandSurg Mr McGraw is a respected Consultant Hand and Orthopaedic Trauma Surgeon with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer with the University of Glasgow.  He graduated with Commendation in 2005 and completed his orthopaedic training in the West of Scotland before going on to undertake further specialist fellowship training in Hand Surgery in Newcastle, involving dual training in both Plastic Hand Surgery as well as Orthopaedic Hand surgery. He has also completed a Royal College of Surgeons/Ethicon Travelling Fellowship at the Philadelphia Hand Center and Shriners Hospital Philadelphia, USA and also undertook a prestigious AO Trauma Fellowship in Texas, USA.  He is one of very few surgeons in Scotland to hold the British Society for Surgery of the Hand (BSSH) Diploma in Hand Surgery.  He was elected to serve on the Council for the BSSH in 2025 and from 2026 will be course chair for the AO Principles of Orthopaedic Trauma course. His specialist focus is on hand and upper limb conditions. He prides himself on his safe,  and pragmatic approach and will take time to carefully assess and clearly discuss all treatment options.  Surgery will only be offered if clearly in your best interests and once all other options have been discussed and explored.  Known for his calm nature and patient-centred approach, he combines clinical precision with compassionate care, offering expert assessment and treatment for a wide range of hand and wrist conditions. Conditions assessed and treated may include arthritis, injuries, work-related conditions, carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, dupuytren disease, ganglions, hand and wrist joint replacements, and finger fusion surgery. He currently practices privately at Elanic Hospital in Glasgow, where he performs advanced upper limb and hand surgeries. Alongside his clinical work, Mr McGraw has extensive experience in medico-legal reporting, reflecting his detailed and structured approach to injury evaluation. His practice is driven by a commitment to optimising outcomes and restoring function, making him a trusted expert in the field of hand and upper limb surgery.

"Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions."
