About Dr Hussain Contractor

Dr. Hussain Contractor is a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, Wythenshawe Hospital, where he has been serving since 2016. Trained in the UK and Canada, he brings broad experience in managing cardiac conditions such as angina, coronary artery disease, palpitations, arrhythmias, blackouts, breathlessness, heart failure, high cholesterol, valvular and structural heart disease, and high blood pressure. Specialising in interventional cardiology, Dr. Contractor is sub-specialised in complex angioplasty and advanced techniques for managing chronic total occlusions. He performs the highest volume of percutaneous coronary interventions (PCIs) in his region, achieving excellent procedural outcomes and maintaining a stellar safety record. He is also adept in low/minimal contrast angiography for patients with advanced kidney disease, and has extensive expertise in structural heart disease interventions, including treatments for valve disease and renal denervation for difficult-to-control hypertension. To date, he has performed over 3,000 stent procedures and many more diagnostic angiograms, and is an expert in intracoronary imaging, coronary physiology, and calcium modification techniques such as rotablation and intravascular lithotripsy. Dr. Contractor leads the Renal Denervation programme in Manchester, utilising novel technology to achieve long-term blood pressure reduction, and he frequently presents his innovative work at national and international conferences. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Contractor is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Manchester and the Clinical Research Lead for Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. He heads several clinical trials, maintains a keen interest in developing new treatment options, and serves as the Secondary Prevention Lead of the Strategic Cardiac Network for Greater Manchester, specialising in risk factor management including high blood pressure and cholesterol.

"Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions."
