About Mr Gavin McLean
Mr Gavin McLean is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with many years of experience in orthopaedic techniques such as meniscus reconstruction, stabilisation, realignment and repair, in addition to total knee replacements and revisions. He sees private patients at The Belfast Knee Clinic and the Ulster Independent Clinic, Belfast. Mr McLean earned his primary medical qualification in 2003 at the University of Glasgow, after which he undertook his basic surgical training in Scotland and Northern Island, where he also went on to undertake his specialist orthopaedic surgical training. During this time, he gained much knowledge and expertise in orthopaedic surgery, in addition to teaching and research. Upon completion, Mr McLean undertook his examination with the Royal College of Surgeons (Trauma and orthopaedic) and later earned his Certificate of Completion of Specialist training in 2015. During his specialist training, Mr McLean also studied toward his medical doctorate, in which he focused his research on Immune response to trauma and Acute Kidney Injury. He has since been an active member of the research community and has authored several papers in renowned medical journals. Mr McLean also had the opportunity to gain fellowships in lower limb arthroplasty under Professor David Beverland and also in knee ligament reconstruction, at Southmead Hospital, Bristol, prior to his Consultant appointment.
