He was educated at the University of Leicester, where he qualified in 1998 with his MBChB. He then undertook postgraduate research training at Oxford before being appointed as a consultant cardiologist. He has a specialist interest in echocardiography and valvular heart disease.
Dr. Jim Newton has been involved in assessing patients before, during, and after TAVI procedures since 2008, when the first such procedure was performed in Oxford, and is an expert on all aspects of procedural imaging. As well as being an expert in his field, Dr. Jim Newton is also very active in training and education, currently serving as the training programme director for cardiology in the Thames Valley. He was also previously a council member of the British Society of Echocardiography.
In his spare time, he enjoys motorsports and photography.
