About

Dr David Lindsay has 26 years experience as consultant cardiologist and has had a broad training in most aspects of clinical cardiology.

His NHS practice is at Gloucestershire Royal, Cheltenham Generalt, Stroud and Tetbury hospitals. He was appointed in 1994 as the first modern cardiologist in West Gloucestershire and is the senior cardiologist for a first-rate cardiology service serving a county population of around 650,000. Dr Lindsay also holds private consultations at Ramsay Winfield Hospital, Tetbury Hospital, and Nuffield Health Cheltenham Hospital.

Dr Lindsay's MD thesis studied various aspects of heart failure and is a keen proponent of clinical trial data. He has particular interests in the primary/secondary prevention (risk factor management) and treatment of coronary heart disease, valvular and adult congenital heart disease, 'funny turns' and palpitations. He has a particular experience in medicine related to scuba diving and the management of 'holes in the heart'.

Dr Lindsay offers the following investigations/treatments:

• Cardiac pacemaker insertion

• Coronary angiography

• Implantable loor recorder (ILR) insertion

• Echocardiography

• ECG recording & interpretation: including resting, ambulatory ECGs and exercise

• DC-cardioversion for atrial fibrillation

Dr Lindsay qualified in 1983 from Cambridge, then Oxford University and undertook his cardiology training at the National Heart and Royal Brompton Hospitals, London. He currently runs the local joint Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD) clinic and has had involvement on local and national committees establishing guidelines for the management of hyperlipidemia, angina, and heart failure.

In his free time, Dr Lindsay has travelled extensively and enjoys SCUBA diving, hill walking and all things outdoors. He is also an avid supporter of the Gloucester Rugby team.

“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”

— Dr David Lindsay
